Overview
I initially found this book quite difficult to get into, but once I got into my stride I found it made some very valued points if sometimes over analysed the work of some of the Photographers/artists.
I feel sometimes it tries to find to much meaning in particular photographs and almost leads the reader to the author's point of view. I suppose the very nature of art or photography is it is completely subjective, and what is one mans poison is another mans pleasure.
What I have gleaned from this book is that up until now I hadn't really considered my photographs as being pieces of art. Although this then begs the question what actually is art? or what indeed did I consider art to be?
I guess after my most recent assignment in which I chose to photograph a 1940's weekend and then portray the pictures befitting the style of the era, I now have a somewhat different perception on how my work is seen or portrayed, as I tried to take the viewer on a journey so that they may feel in some small way they that the pictures could truly represent events of a bygone age.
It was also interesting to read how the author had categorised the style's of photography and by me then reflecting on my own work to see where I would think that they would sit.
In conclusion, this book has given me much food for thought and perhaps changed my perception in the way I view mine an indeed other peoples work.
